Mari Kuraishi: The Crucial Moment is Now

From her vantage point as a both a historian and a global economic leader, Mari Kuraishi has seen that human progress is not as inexorable as we tend to think. Society indeed advances, but people get left behind. The path of progress diverges or disappears altogether. Kuraishi teaches us to follow the crooked path and never forget one single decision does not lead to a life well lived.

Mari is the co-founder and president of Global Giving which connects individual and institutional donors directly to social, economic development, and environmental projects around the world. GlobalGiving uses the Internet to create a highly efficient marketplace that enables more funding to reach projects throughout the globe and, at the same time, provides a more transparent, engaging way for donors to give. Since 2002, 212,700 donors have given $50,170,963 to 4,468 projects.

    Alpinist

    Matthew Moniz is one of Colorado’s most accomplished young alpinists, having climbed four of the seven summits and completed all US High Points by the age of 12. Matt was recently named National Geographic Adventurer of the Year for 2010. A Boulder native, Matt has been active in the outdoors since his early youth and is a competitive freestyle skier, mountain biker and rock climber. However, it was a climb to Everest Base Camp at 17,200 feet and a summit of Kala Patar at 18,501 feet in April 2007 at the age of 9 that ignited Matt’s enthusiasm for high-altitude alpine climbing.
